Plasmonic Response of Gold Nanoparticles Arrays Made by Nanosphere Lithography and Electron Beam Lithography

چکیده
Metallic nanoparticles in the 10-100 nm size range exhibit a very specific optical response in the visible spectrum. Here we present our work towards possible applications of such particles for the design of highly sensitive and miniaturized biosensors. Fabrication of nanoparticles is discussed, comprising hexagonal arrays of truncated tetrahedrons made by nanosphere lithography (NSL), and nanoparticles of different shapes made by electron beam lithography. The specific properties of both types of nanoparticles are discussed. From an experimental point of view, characterization is made using dark field spectroscopy, together with SEM or AFM imaging. To give more insight in the behavior of individual particles and arrays of particles, the discrete dipole approximation appears to be one of the most successful modeling techniques. We conclude with a discussion of the use of this method to model our particles and compare the results with experimental measurements and other common modeling techniques.

Comparing plasmonic electrodes prepared by electron-beam lithography and electrochemical reduction of an Au (iii) salt: application in active plasmonic devices
This work describes two different methods for obtaining electrodes covered with gold nanoparticles: electron-beam lithography and electroreduction of an Au (III) salt by chronoamperometry. Localized surface plasmon resonances of these different electrodes have been compared. In a second step, these plasmonic AuNP electrodes were covered with an ultrathin organic film of bisthienylbenzene which ...
متن کاملProfile Controlled Gold Nanostructures Fabricated by Nanosphere Lithography for Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance
Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) is the coherent oscillation of conductive electrons confined in noble metallic nanoparticles excited by electromagnetic radiation, and nanosphere lithography (NSL) is one of the cost-effective methods to fabricate metal nanostructures for LSPR. NSL can be categorized into two major groups: dispersed NSL and closely pack NSL. In recent years, gold nanoc...
متن کاملRepetitive Hole-Mask Colloidal Lithography for the Fabrication of Large-Area Low-Cost Plasmonic Multishape Single-Layer Metasurfaces
Nanostructuring for tailored optical functionality suffers from a lack of methods for large-area and low-cost fabrication. While electron beam lithography allows different complex shapes to be deposited onto the same substrate layer, the writing process is sequential and the fabrication is very expensive. Large-area methods, such as nanosphere lithography, [ 1 ] colloidal lithography using shad...
متن کاملGuided immobilisation of single gold nanoparticles by chemical electron beam lithography
The fabrication of periodic arrays of single metal nanoparticles is of great current interest. In this paper we present a straight-forward three-step procedure based on chemical electron beam lithography, which is capable of producing such arrays with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Preformed 6 nm AuNPs are immobilised on thiol patterns with a pitch of 100 nm by guided self-assembly. Afterwards, th...
متن کاملWafer-scale fabrication of plasmonic crystals from patterned silicon templates prepared by nanosphere lithography.
By combining nanosphere lithography with template stripping, silicon wafers were patterned with hexagonal arrays of nanowells or pillars. These silicon masters were then replicated in gold by metal evaporation, resulting in wafer-scale hexagonal gratings for plasmonic applications. In the nanosphere lithography step, two-dimensional colloidal crystals of 510 nm diameter polystyrene spheres were...
